The IMAODBC conference brings together experts from National Statistical Offices (NSOs) and international organisations to support the exchange of views on current trends, new ideas and upcoming technologies for a user-oriented communication of statistics. It focuses on web development, social media, databases and dissemination tools for digital communication.
However, data is useless unless it can be read, interpreted, analysed and used to drive action. This is what we call data literacy. During the conference, special attention will be paid to this UPDI (Link) concern.
In the afternoon sessions on Tuesday, 26 September 2023, experts will discuss successful concepts and methods on the challenge of transforming complex data into easily understandable visualisations.
How can the data and statistics communities compete in the current attention economy to put facts and data at the forefront? How can the general public access and learn about data and statistics to establish a fact-based worldview? How should data and statistics be presented so that they can be easily understood and used by the public? How can the general public’s data literacy skills be strengthened? These are the questions that will drive the data literacy workstream’s activities.
